BMC is thrilled to announce the construction of a brand-new playground on our campus! Conveniently located right next to the BMC Wellness Center along the walking track, this new addition is made possible through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds. Soon, parents can get in their outdoor exercise while their kids have a blast playing nearby—it's the perfect combination for family fun and fitness!
At BMC, we have been dedicated to creating new opportunities for our community, continuously enhancing the walking track and adding features like an outdoor sensory trail and improved lighting to make our campus safer and more accessible. The new outdoor lighting not only enhances safety but also ensures that the community can enjoy the track at any time of day, with even more opportunities for exercise and recreation.
Why is this so important? Research shows a clear link between physical activity and overall happiness, family well-being, and quality of life. Active family leisure time doesn’t just improve physical health; it positively affects emotional well-being, strengthens social connections, and fosters a healthier, happier family dynamic. Plus, recreational activities help seniors stay independent and engaged in community life. It’s all about building a stronger, healthier community!
Our goal is to provide opportunities for our community to increase recreational activity and decrease sedentary behavior, ultimately resulting in improved health and wellness throughout life. We truly believe that movement is medicine—and when our community is healthy, we all thrive!
There’s even more to celebrate! We’ve heard the calls from pickleball enthusiasts, and we’re excited to announce that BMC Wellness will be opening pickleball courts by early March along with an outdoor basketball court! This exciting new benefit will be available to BMC Wellness members at no additional cost, and community members can enjoy it with a court rental guest pass. Members will be able to easily reserve court times through the app or website—making it simple to get on the court and start playing!
Over the past few years, pickleball has become the fastest-growing sport among people of all ages. A fun combination of tennis, ping-pong, and badminton, pickleball is a low-impact game that helps keep people healthy and active at any age. Here are the top five benefits:
Improves Balance, Hand-Eye Coordination, and Flexibility
Hitting and receiving the ball can enhance hand-eye coordination and balance. It helps keep the mind sharp, supports cognitive function, and builds footwork skills. Moving your body throughout the game helps keep joints flexible.
Improves Heart Health
Pickleball is an excellent form of cardiovascular exercise that helps elevate your heart rate. It can improve cholesterol and blood pressure levels, reducing the risk of heart disease.
Prevents Osteoporosis
Since pickleball is low-impact and gentle on the body, it’s a great way to stay active and maintain healthy bones, joints, and muscles. Playing pickleball can reduce bone loss and help preserve bone tissue.
Boosts Mood and Mental Health
Playing pickleball with others stimulates the brain and releases endorphins, which can reduce anxiety, depression, and stress. This boosts your mood and supports mental health.
Fosters Social Connections
Pickleball is a great way to meet new people, stay socially engaged, and build relationships. Regular participation reduces isolation and improves emotional well-being.
