Starting January 25th, BMC Wellness Center is excited to launch a Youth Fitness Class led by Taylor Gurley! This engaging program, designed for kids ages 5–12, offers a fantastic opportunity for young ones to stay active, learn new skills, and have fun in a supportive environment. Classes will take place every Saturday at 10:30am, ensuring families can prioritize fitness in their weekend plans. Best of all, the class is free for members and just $5 per session for nonmembers.
Why Youth Fitness Matters
Physical activity plays a crucial role in the healthy development of children. Regular exercise helps improve cardiovascular fitness, build strength, and enhance coordination. But the benefits go beyond the physical. Here are some key reasons why youth fitness is vital:
1. Boosts Mental Health: Exercise has been shown to reduce stress, anxiety, and symptoms of depression in kids. It also promotes better sleep and enhances mood by releasing endorphins.
2. Encourages Social Skills: Participating in group fitness classes teaches teamwork, communication, and how to build relationships with peers.
3. Improves Academic Performance: Physical activity increases blood flow to the brain, which can help with concentration, memory, and overall academic success.
4. Establishes Lifelong Habits: Introducing kids to fitness at a young age helps them develop a positive relationship with exercise, setting the foundation for a healthy lifestyle into adulthood.
5. Builds Confidence: Learning new skills and seeing improvement over time gives kids a sense of accomplishment and boosts self-esteem.
What to Expect in the Youth Fitness Class
Taylor Gurley has designed a program that’s fun, dynamic, and age-appropriate. Kids will participate in a variety of activities that promote fitness through play. From jumping rope to relay races, the class will keep kids moving while emphasizing the joy of being active.
Each session is tailored to ensure kids of all fitness levels feel included and challenged. The focus will be on building strength, endurance, and flexibility while encouraging healthy habits in a positive and energetic atmosphere.
Make Exercise a Family Priority
As a parent, you play a critical role in fostering healthy habits for your children. Here are a few tips to help your family stay active together:
• Be a Role Model: Show your kids the importance of staying active by prioritizing your own fitness.
• Create Active Traditions: Take family walks, play tag in the yard, or explore local parks on weekends.
• Encourage Exploration: Allow your kids to try different activities, from swimming to soccer, until they find what they love.
Starting January 25th, bring your kids to BMC Wellness Center’s Youth Fitness Class and let them experience the many benefits of exercise in a fun and supportive environment. Together, we can build a healthier future for the next generation!
